Released every year with a whole host of professional tasting notes on whiskies throughout the world, the Bible also selects a World Whisky of the Year. For 2014, that honour has gone to the Glenmorangie Ealanta.
Originally an experiment by by Dr. Bill Lumsden, director of distilling and whisky creation at Glenmorangie, the Ealanta was aged for 19 years in virgin white oak casks. In Jim Murray's own words, "Not only did it blow one away with its deftness, beauty and elegance, but it gave an aroma and taste profile completely new to me in over 30 years of tasting whisky." As if that wasn't enough to establish the Ealanta's street cred, Murray also gives it a score of 97.5 (on 100).
Current price for the Ealanta is $120, which translates roughly to Rs 7500, though its not really available for retail in India. Maybe someone can spot it at the duty free?
